the future of tourism….

There has been a lot in the news lately, here in the UK, about Carbon Footprints. Particularly our day to day activities and the amount of Carbon they pump into the environment. One of the biggest impactors on this is air travel. One thing occurred to me that what if…..restrictions were placed on air travel or some twist on this concept. How would this effect tourism in those far-to-reach places that, more than likely, place a big reliance on tourism to generate income. Here I am thinking of places like Australia and NewZealand in relation to Europe. If, for some reason, it was not possible to travel by plane to these countries, what would be the impact?

More importantly what thought has been given to these types of extreme situations in contingency planning for the future. Asking this type of question can often be quite useful in formulating innovative strategies and products that have some relevance even now. How can we replace the lost revenue?
On the other side of this is what options are available to cruise liners? They would certainly have something to gain should some form of backlash occur against air travel, particularly as they don’t seem to figure in peoples thinking on this subject……
